New to VMWare on Mac. 'Could not open /dev/vmmon: Broken pipe.' ... 'Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.' ERROR

Downloaded VMWare this afternoon after reading/hearing about how good it is after experiencing some frustration with VirtualBox.

 

Paid 70 pounds, downloaded and installed ... upon first attempt of setting-up a Windows VM, I get the 'Could not open /dev/vmmon: Broken pipe' error, try again with Linux Mint and get the same.

 

Reading these forums, it says lots about granting access through security settings which I have done.  These weren't set so I made the changes and re-started but the error was still there.

 

I then attempted to uninstall the program to reinstall it ... this was also problematic as the program is not easy to fully remove - even with the removal instructions that uses the finder to remove hidden library files.  Upon re-installation, things are still there from the first installation which suggests not everything had been removed.  Two re-installations later and the error still comes up.

 

Could anybody please tell me how I even get support from VMWare?  The 'get support' page asks me to select the program I require, but it is not listed in my account profile, despite me purchasing it from the account.

 

Help needed.  Just paid 70 pounds for something that doesn't work.

Skyline Cost & Cloud Services

I have read numerous documents that say skyline is a free product.  During the initial setup of skyline it takes me to vmware cloud services and prompts me to setup a new organization.  It tells me to “be careful to enter the correct address for the organization. This address will be used to calculate taxes and determine which currency the organization will use when paying for services.”  So my basic questions…

 

is this free or not? 

Is it free if I’m already paying for cloud services?

Are cloud services included in the production support agreement?

What are the cost for cloud services as it relates to skyline?

 

I am hesitant to create the organization without having an understanding of the potential cost.

 

I do have a current Production support agreement, but cannot get a straight answer from my vendor.

 

Thanks for your help and sorry if this has been answered numerous times.

Fusion 8: How to downgrade the compatibility level of a vm

After upgrading to Fusion11 I need to boot from a different macOS partition on which Fusion8.5 is installed. Here a dialogue comes up and says that I need to upgrade my Fusion app (which I won't) or downgrade  the compatibility level. How to perform the latter option? -H-

Troubleshooting Applications

What's the best way to go about troubleshooting applications that are attached along with a user writable volume? For instance, if I have an appstack that contains Acrobat Pro XI and then one of my users reports that it's throwing up an error message how should I troubleshoot it? On one hand I don't want to make the problem worse by doing something stupid like reinstalling the app from the user's desktop, but on the other hand I understand that some application problems legitimately need fixed from the user's desktop.

 

In the example above I can take that same appstack and attach it to another user's VM and it works just as expected, however, even if I unassign and reassign the same appstack to the user's desktop who's experiencing the problem it makes no difference (not that I expected that it would). I guess my question boils down to how much troubleshooting is too much? Or how far is too far?

 

When we used Unidesk there was an option to "reinstall" the application layer which would override any user changes that were written to their personalization layer (the changes they made which likely broke the app in the first place). Obviously, no such option exists in AppVolumes so what do I do?

 

How are you guys tacking this problem? I know one answer is to avoid writable volumes altogether and go 100% with UEM but I'm wondering what other routes people are taking?

estou tendo dificuldades com meus vmwares em duas maquinas direntes mas o mesmo problema, ao tentar usar o modo bridge nao pega ip de forma alguma.

 

Nunca tive esse problema e agora comecou e nao percebi o motivo.

 

Poderiam me ajudar me mostrando o caminho da solucao?

hcmon.sys regularly causing BSOD on Windows 10

Hi,

 

I have the latest version of VMWare Player (15.0.2). hcmon.sys keeps crashing the system with a BSOD. Windows says it is due to a "page fault in non paged area" from hcmon.sys. hcmon.sys version is 8.11.6.0.

 

This mostly happens on resume from sleep or hibernate, especially when my Thunderbolt connected devices are attached. It sometimes happens when the system is running.

 

I am running Windows 10 Pro 1809. I have all of the latest drivers from Intel & Lenovo. The only permanently connected USB device is a USB keyboard. The Thunderbolt driver is from Intel/Lenovo.

 

Is there any other resolution other than me uninstalling VMWare and going back to Hyper-V?

 

I specifically started to use VMWare because of its better virtual USB support, but if this continues I will remove it.

VUM missing after Update

Recently I updated from 6.7U1 to the latest as of 1/19/2019 and noticed that the VUM HTML5 and Flash elements are missing,

 

Additional info

     i am using VCSA and the service at least according to both the cli and admin ui is running

 

i have tried to reregister the extension with the mob page but no luck

Is this common and if so how can i fix this issue

Lost Network Adapter on two VM's

VMware ESXI 6.5

 

I have two Windows 2016 Data Center Servers.

Both have two network adapters defined

When I look at the Network adapters on the servers it does not appear in device manager

 

On vCenter it shows connected.

 

What is the best method to get this back?

Permissions and/or ACL for "/Users/Shared/Virtual Machines" folder?

Can someone who is deploying virtual machines using VMware's wrapper shout back with the output of:

 

ls -le /Users/Shared/

 

I haven't been able to find any info on how to set the "/Users/Shared/Virtual Machines/" folder, pretty sure ACL will be needed.

vCenter Appliance SCSI Controller

Hi,

 

Has anyone else looked into changing the SCSI controller of the vCenter appliance? I find it strange that the appliance is shipped without using the paravirtual SCSI controller, we have seen good returns when moving to this and would like to across the board where possible (known limitations taken into consideration).

 

I appreciate the appliance is distributed 'as is' and modifying it in such a way would likely void any support but I'm still curious to know whether anyone has tried it.

Horizon Cloud on Azure:The requirement version of Windows server used as ADCS of True SSO.

Dear community

 

I have read below manual and Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2008 R2 could be used as ADCS of True SSO.

But cloud I use Windows Server 2016 as ADCS?

 

Below document sais that "The procedures in this topic are for Windows Server 2012 R2. Very similar steps can be followed on Windows Server 2008 R2".

I've already checked Interoperability Matrices, but there is not a description of ADCS.

Below document(REQUIREMENTS CHECKLIST) referes domain functional levels of ADDS and ADCS,

but I do not determine if I can use this to check Interoperability between Horizon Cloud and the version of ADCS itself.

Переезд vm с разных LUN одного хранилища в один LUN другого

Добрый день, появился вопросик. Задача: vm с несколькими дисками находится на разных LUN одного хранилища, необходим переезд vm на LUN, в одну папку другого хранилища. Вопрос как быть, ведь файлы vmdk имеют одинаковое название на разных LUN хранилищ и при копировании будут конфликтовать. Какие варианты есть?

Has anyone tried upgrading to Horizon 7.7 with nvidia GRID K1 or K2 cards?

This compatibility matrix shows GRID K1 only up to Horizon 7.5. But I don't see any reason why Horizon 7.6+ wouldn't be compatible, since ESXi 6.5 supports GRID K1 (with or without Horizon). I have a feeling that VMWare simply stopped updating that compatibility page. Can anyone confirm?

Importing/Exporting OVF's

So I have a couple of separate scripts that Import and Export OVF's which is not the issue.  I've now been asked if I can do both based on a folder.  From what I've been asked they want me to write a script that will allow someone to select a folder or perhaps multiple VM's in vCenter and export them all as OVF's.  They also want to be able to import as well from a folder, but I'm thinking that unless I somehow have the export script put every OVF file for every VM that's exported it wouldn't be possible.  Is any of this possible?  Or is it just too convoluted and just opening multiple PowerCLI windows a better way to go?

Restart vRA 7 deployment wizard

Hello,

 

I am going through the installation wizard on vRA 7 but for some reason I had to change the Windows account that runs the DEM agents and the SQL DB connection, when I get to the Validation section of the wizard the connection to the DB fails, in the logs I can see it is still trying to use the old account I ran it the first time it failed.

 

I have gone back to the first section and entered the values again, logged out and restart the appliance, but every time the Wizard uses the wrong account.  Is there any way to force a restart of the deployment without redeploying the appliance?

Linked Cline vs instant clone (maintenance mode or vmotion support?)

With linked clones we can put a VM into maintenance mode to preserve that VM from being recomposed after logoff and we can vmotion linked clones between esx hosts. It appears we can't to this with instant clones? Is it a planned feature?

 

We have used these two techniques for esx maintenance and to preserve evidence on linked clones that have indications of compromise.

 

If these aren't planned features how should one go about accomplishing those two tasks?

vRealize Atuomation deployment fails when software components are added.

Hi.

 

As the title says my deployment fails when I add some software components to my blueprint.

I would like to mention that the deployment if a blueprint is without any software components deloys complitely fine. So I guess the template and other stuf should be OK.

 

The deployment gets stuck at 99% and then after some time it fails.

 

Here is my software component actions:

 

INSTALL:

 

#Install needed packages:

sudo yum install -y yum-utils device-mapper-persistent-data lvm2

#Configure the docker-ce repo:

sudo yum-config-manager --add-repo https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/docker-ce.repo

#Install docker-ce:

sudo yum install -y docker-ce

#Add your user to the docker group:

sudo usermod -aG docker $(whoami)

 

CONFIGURE:

 

systemctl start docker

systemctl enable docker

 

START:

 

#Run

docker run hello-world

 

I have no properties defined.

Mandatory Profile with UEM

hi,

UEMdev

i am new to mandatory profiles.

can we use mandatory profile with UEM? i mean will the user be able to save application profiles/reg settings ... etc  created in UEM ?

and in mandatory profile all the users will have same appdata or what other setting/folder will remain the same inspite user changes?
