Can't select Parallels virtual machine to import

I've been searching the discussions on problems with importing Parallels VMs.  I can't find my specific problem.  When I select File/Import and navigate to my Parallels VM folder, I see the two .pvm files for my XP and Linux Vms.  They are grayed out.  I can't select either one.  I don't get far enough to get an error message.

If I start in the "virtual machine library" window and hit "new", then "continue without disk" and select Use Existing Virtual Disk, I can navigate beyond the .pvm file, and see the necessary .pvs file, but it is also grayed out, and can't be selected.

I properly shut down both of my VMs in parallels, and I cannot find any .lock files in those folders, even by turning on "show hidden files" in finder.

Please help.  I switched to Fusion because I was told it was better than Parallels.  I can't even get it to run!  Not good.
