Hi everyone
I'm hoping someone can offer a solution to a problem I am encountering with Workstation 8. I develop VBScripts and other code on my host machine (Windows 7 Prof 64-bit), which I test on Windows guests running under Workstation. I use the Shared Folder capability within VM settings to access the files on my host.
Since installing Workstation 8, I have found that if I execute from within a guest a script file which is located in the file system of my host, I can no longer save it within a script or text editor (running on the host) due to a file sharing violation. The only thing that seems to release the lock is to shut down the guest OS, shutting down the app using the file inside the guest does not help, nor does logging off the guest system or restarting the script editor.
I have used several versions of Workstation previously, and this never occurred before; the problem started only after upgrading to Workstation 8.
The only work arounds I have found are either to to copy the file into the guest and run it independantly (and repeat after every modification), or to locate the script file inside the guest OS, then map a drive to it from my host, but neither are particularly satisfactory.
Is there a solution to allow Workstation 8 to operation as it did in earlier versions, i.e. to keep the file on my host and run it from within a guest without locking the file?
Many thanks
Alain
