We are in the process of adding an additional server. We currently have one esx host and I have finally convenced management of the benifits of having a failover machine. However I do not know if I am going to be able to convence them of the benifits of having shared storage right now. If we continue to use DAS on both machines migrations between them would be limited to the 1gb network (with multiple uplinks). This is all good except it would cause user preformance to suffer and is slower than potentially a 10gb nic in each box with a crossover cable. I know we used to do simular things in linux to connect two boxes on the backend for data sharing. Can esx be configured so that it knows if it needs to communicate from Host A to Host B use network X and if it needs to communicate with anyone else us network Y?? I am including a drawing so please excuse the crudity.. I sketched it on the fly.
I wanted to se if anyone had done a simular setup and what the results were. I don't see any reason it wouldnt work as long as the esx host know which path to use for transfering data between machines.
Thanks,
Brad
