Has anyone seen any correlation between the implementation of a vDS and increased SAN utilization?

I ask because our storage team is stating that when we leverage vDS they see hourly spikes and when we migrate to vSS it disappears. To me it sounds impossible but perhaps I need to be educated. Our SAN is standard HBA and Fibre and our network is standard ethernet and IP. We are not leveraging FCOE, ISCSI or NAS.  Anyone know of any way hourly SAN spiking could be related? Thanks
