questions about ghettoVCB and restoring

Hi everybody,

I'm a newbie with VMware.

I want to archive serverals VMs which were switched off after a conversion of our Windows domain. For this job I want to use ghettoVCB.

I added an additional hard drive to the ESXi4.1 host. The backup with ghettoVCB was no problem. But I have some questions about the template for restoring. The template shows these lines:

#"<DIRECTORY or .TGZ>;<DATASTORE_TO_RESTORE_TO>;<DISK_FORMAT_TO_RESTORE>"
# "...source path...;/vmfs/volumes/himalaya-local-SATA.RE4-GP:Storage;1"

I don't know what I have to use for the 'datastore to restore to', e.g."/vmfs/volumes/himalaya-local-SATA.RE4-GP:Storage" ? In my case the storage where the VMs are installed on, is "/vmfs/volumes/HDD". What do I have to enter here?

I want to test a restore for VM without deleting the original VM before. Is it possible to restore in a copy of the original VM on the same host? What do I have to do for this?

When everything is done, I want to remove this hard drive which is formated with VMFS3. How do I attach this drive on a different ESXi?

Are there any other hints for archiving of VMs?

kind regards,

Peter
