Performance drop on n+1 VMs

I've got VMWare Fusion 5 running on an OSX Lion Server with two OSX Lion VMs (64-bit).  It seems no matter what resources i give these VMs, only the first VM performs as expected---all others are much slower.  I'd like to utilize the host machine better and be able to run more than one VM!

I started with one VM and cloned it to ensure all settings would be the same.  I've even tried only running the 2nd VM in isolation to see if it was starved of resources, but that's not the case.  When the 2nd VM is running alone it's performance is half that of the other VM.

Are there any settings i should be looking out for?  Any cpu bindings i'm unaware of?  I've ensured all virtual hardware and vmware tools are updated.

Thanks in advance!
