VMWare Fusion - USB Wifi NIC pass-through

I'm trying to pass a USB Wifi NIC adapter through to a windows 8 VM. I can see the USB adapter in windows 8 just fine, but it's disabled. Enabling it does nothing. I suspect VMWare Tools/Fusion is disabling this NIC, but unfortunately I don't have another NIC to test with. I do know that this NIC works on a windows 8 tablet.

Before anyone mentions using bridging or NAT  through Fusion, that won't work for me. The adapter needs to have the right HW  MAC address for software licensing reasons.

Anyone have experience doing this and/or can comment on whether USB NIC pass-through works in Fusion? If it is what I suspect (Fusion disabling the adapter), is there a way to tell it to not do this so I can make use of this adapter directly?
