Does ram\memory get cached on Windows guest OS when VMs are restarted or rebooted?

I am not sure if this is the correct section I should be posting this but I have question if anyone can chime in.

I am running vCenter 5.1 with ESXi 4.1 hosts. I have a question in regards to one specific VM running Windows Server 2008 R2. I am running a third party application where certain information needs to be stored or cached in RAM so it gets saved after a server reboot. After many attempts I could not get it to work. I am wondering since it is a VM that the memory cache gets wiped out after a VM reboot because it is not physical ram as far as the VM is concerned. Can someone confirm this for me please? I have been banging my head against a wall for 2 days now.

Is there a setting I can change somewhere where it does cache the RAM info as a regular physical computer would?

Thank you.
