VMware goes limp with Windows 7 guest

Hi all,

not really sure how to call this thread properly ....

I'm running VMware 8 / VMplayer 4 on a Linux Mint 12 64bit host. The guest is a 64bit Windows 7. It seems to run fine for some minutes (less than 30 minutes) and then suddenly becomes completley unresponsive. When I run the VM even if everthing is idle, I see a flat load on my CPU of about 10% or so just from the VMware provess. When VMware goes limp, the load drops to essentially 0.

Guest windows don't except any mouse or keyboard input. I cannot even close VMware properly getting the message "The virtual machine is busy". When I Unity mode, I'm unable to exit unity. The session appears dead, but the VMware windows exists. VMware tools are up-to-date.

This does not happen however on with a XP guest system.

Anyone out here, who has similar experience  and knows (hopefully) a work-around?

Thanks and cheers,

                     Riko

PS: The VM was created with WS7 and then upgraded to WS8. However the effect was the same in both versions.
