Is there any obvious reason what I should NOT simply install Virtual Center new, instead of upgrading my version 4.1?
I believe I can just install it new, and then detach my ESX hosts from the old Virtual Center, and attach them to the new one, right? What exactly would I lose by doing this? I guess I lose all the performance stats, but perhaps I don't care so much about that.
There are two reasons I'd like to do this. Tell me what you think:
1. It's surely much simpler to build a new Windows server, and install Virtual Center 5.1 (and all its additional components), without having to fear that I've going to get in the middle of things, have a error occur, and I can't easily get the old one working again.
2. We are running the Virtual Center database on SQL Server right now, and I'd like to move this to Oracle, because our MSSQL Server is virtualized, and we get into situations where it's not simple to get Virtual Center running again. For instance, when the MSSQL server gets patched and rebooted, which occurs several times per year. Then Virtual Center stops working. Yes, it's not all that hard to resolve, but it's annoying. If we move the database to Oracle on Linux, running NOT on VMWare, then this problem goes away. There are some minor reasons, too.
So, what are the pros and cons to doing this? I hope I can get some good advice on this. Thanks.
