Ubantu full screen problem in wmware 7.1.4

Hi,

I install VMWare warkstation v.7.1.4 in my pc.

In this warkstation i install ubantu 8.04.4.

But the problem is the when i start the vmware it can not show the full screen of the ubantu. It is shows a small window of the ubantu.

I try to this procedure

go to "View" and select "Autofit window" and "Autofit Guest" and Close VMWare.

Open terminal window enter the following command and press enter

sudo gedit ~/vmware/preferences

You need to change the following line

pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitHostToGuest"

to

pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitGuestToHost"

"

but there is no file ~/vmware/preferences

Can u please help me to short out this problem...
