I am using a trial version of Fusion 5 on an iMac running Mountain Lion. My aim is to test runing Mountain Lion as a guest (after problems with VirtualBox) in order to be able to dry-run various things before trying them on the host.
The installationof the ML guest worked well and the upgrade to 10.8.2 also worked (this is where VB failed). However, after taking a snapshot I tried to run a long-lasting process (installing Gentoo Prefix). This performs many network and disk activities and runs for some time but eventually hangs the whole virtual machine. I tried again, after turning off the energy saving features in the guest (ie setting them to 'never') and turing off the guest screen saver; same result although probably at a different stage of the process.
Does anyone have suggestions as to the cause/cure?
