I am running Workstation 9 on Windows 7 host with 2 physical monitors.
I have two VMs:
1. Running Windows 7
2. Running Windows 8
Both VMs have the latest version of VMWare Tools installed.
Until recently both of them could run in full screen mode either on one or on two monitors. In my Windows 8 VM I was able to work on the Start Page of VM on
one monitor and the desktop view (Windows 7 like) on the other monitor.
Yesterday I noticed, that my Windows 8 VM no longer can use multiple monitors. When I click on the appropriate toolbar button, I can hear a beep and nothing else happens. No error message or anythig else to help me understand what is preventing it to use the second monitor.
When I run my Windows 7 VM (all setting seem to be the same - the Windows 8 VM is based on my Windows 7 VM) in a SECOND TAB of the same Workstation 9 instance, I find that it can freely switch between one and two monitors. When I return to my Windows 8 tab however, I return to one monitor display with the host's desktop displayed on the second.
I see no difference in the Settings of both VMs.
Recently I ran both VMs in two separate instances of Workstation 9, each on its own monitor.
That should be irrelevant, however the new behavior was noticed only after that.
I will appreciate any suggestions as to how to solve the problem.
