Hello,
I am trying to figure out how trunking works in a VDS. We are running vSphere 5 and we created our VDS and by default for the uplink port group I see it was set to vlan trunking and we are unable to change it becuase it is greyed out. So my first question is why are we not able to change it from here if we wish, where is it getting that setting from?
I created the distributed port groups and indentified the vlans per group but my quesiton is why can't I have one DPG, set it to trunking, identify the range, assign the virtual machines to that group and it then work? When I tried to create one DPG and set it to trunking, identified the range and then assigned a virtual machine to a group that was on the identified range, the VM no longer had connectivity.
Is it because it is already set at the uplink level? Is trunking at the DPG level supposed to be used for some other task?
I mean it is working fine with us having to create a DPG per vlan but I was just wanting to simplify it by just creating one DPG and setting it to trunk.
Thank you for any clarification.
