The set up is a Dell R610 with ESXi 5 and a Seagate USB External drive connected locally. I was able to use USB passthrough to connect the drive to an Linux VM, but that OS failed to recognize it so I have set up another VM with a different Linux distro that I know has better USB support and I'm now attempting to connect the USB device to this VM and getting the following error:
"Cannot connect "path:2/0 version:2" to this virtual machine. The device was not found."
The USB drive was detached/reattached, ESXi recognizes the drive and it is listed as Bus 2 Device 06 when I run "lsusb". Connecting a local workstation USB drive via the client-connected USB option works just fine, but I need to be able to use the drive connected to the host itself.
Any idea what would cause this error or why it would have stopped working?
