Hello,
I'm trying to resolve an issue with the guest hanging on restarting. Having searched and read a number of threads, this seems a relatively common problem but with no single easy solution. The guest OS hangs at the vmware logo screen with the Starting bar loading across the bottom. The guest will not respond to powering off and WMware Workstation won't shut down.
Running: taskkill /f /im vm* will kill off WMware except for 5 processes (which are likely due to some services running still). The host also hangs then when trying to restart and must be powered off with the power button held to force it to shut down.
Shutting down the guest OS completely and starting it up works successfully every time so it's definitely only related to restarting the OS. I have tried reinstalling, recreating the VMs but nothing has worked. Same behaviour also occurs with Windows 7 as the guest OS.
Intel Virtualisation Technology is Enabled in the BIOS. The guest is configured to have 1 processor and 1 core per processor. The rest of the configuration is very standard.
WMware Workstation 8.0.4 build 744019
Host OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Intel Core i7-3610 2.3GHz and 8GB RAM)
Guest OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit with 1GB RAM assigned.
Attached are the logs from the time it froze.
Any help appreciated and happy to provide any futher information as required.
Cheers,
Stuart
