I can't do an upgrade install from Win 7 Ultimate to Win 8 Pro in VMWare Fusion 5.0.1 using the Web Based installer or a separate disc image install (from the iso disc image the installer creates). It keeps failing due to error 0xc000021a (well, it's the new Windows 8 BSOD which now has an emoticon on it and is green) on the final setup.
I've tried doing the upgrade install at least 9 times, failing each time at the very last step it seems.
This BSOD occurs after the intial setup (before Windows reboots for the first time), after the "Getting Ready" precentage count has reached a 100% a few times. Right at the point where you'd think the install would have been completed and Windows 8 Pro would show you the start screen on login.
I'm doing an in-place upgrade install of Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro with the option to keep all my programs, settings, and files.
Has anyone else experienced or resolved this problem?
