Hello,
I administer a machine running esxi 5.0.0 with an sbs 2011 VM.
Today that VM stopped responding- it still worked but very very slowly
on the resource allocation tab, the cpu indicator sits and stays at 0 Mhz.
The host has nothing else to do.
I have a good candidate as the cause.
Within the Vm (sbs 2011), Yesterday I installed a mail archiver application.
On a previous physical server and with an earlier version, this software sometimes caused high cpu loads.
Should the archiver be the cause, why would high cpu load suddenly make esxi cut off cpu resources?
The sbs2011 has a minimum cpu reserved for it
I have rebooted the VM, stopped the archiver tool and am currently crossing my fingers the VM does not freeze again.
Question:
1) What has happened?
2) can I force esxi to free cpu to the VM ?
--------------------------------------
The same type of freeze happened once or twice after the initial install of esxi, now some months ago.
But once I set a cpu/memory reserve, this has not reoccured.

syslog is not available, only after the reboot have I set syslog ( newbie and all that )
