I'm trying to figure out a way to configure multiple guest machines on a ESX clusters to use the same LUN via RDM without losing their ability to migrate between the hosts in the cluster.
- I created a RDM link file on a shared VMFS storage using "vmkfstools -z", creating a file lun1.rdm
- For every VM I wanted to use the RDM, I added lun1.rdm as existing disk, and the machine settings showed that the disk is added as "mapped raw lun".
- Trying to power on 2 VMs that uses the same RDM LUN failed due to locking on the file.
- Creating the disks on a controller with SCSI sharing allowed power on of multiple machines with the RDM LUN configuerd, but prevented the VMs from migrating between the hosts...
Does anyone have any idea how can I configure my system so VMs can use the same RDM at the same time without loosing their ability to do vMotion?
