I am about 4 hours into this simple issue i am having....
I need to setup a backup for my vms..... we tried the ghettovcb route, scripts worked but scheduling issues.. we gave up and decided to purchase backup software.......
our thoughts, upgrade esxi 5.1 free to esx 5.1 standard. then use vm data protection.... what a nightmare..
how do i install the data protection via vsphere client?? the tutorial tells how to do it via vsphere web client???? we do not have this, nor want to purchase it as we use only 1 physical server.
Tried to install the OVF file via the vsphere client and received the following error:
"the OVF package requires support for OVF Properties.
Details: line 171: unsupported element "property"
what am i doing wrong???? otherwise should we just purchase the essential kit to get API support and use a third party like veeam? if so is this straight forward or a mess like the data protect install.
Please advise, I am about to disown vmware for its overwelming complexities to do such a simple task, thus have to pay over $1,000 to setup a backup. grrr. whats the best freeware alternative to vmware, for future reference? or bring me back to loving vmware, to complex for us simple smb....
