Manual install of vCenter Protect Agent

Hi all,

I'm trying to do a manual install of the Vmware Vcenter Protect agent on a "Windows Embedded POSReady 7" client PC.

I've copied the STPlatformUpdater.exe to the PC and ran the install. All according to plan, the registration wizard takes me through adding the host, port numbers and all that, and even selecting a policy (it can retrieve the list of policies, so at least something is working).

The PC only has access to the console on port 443 (this port is "redirected" to port 3121 on the firewall in front of the console).

The console cannot access the PC directly.

After the agent have been installed, it seems as if it doesn't know where to go next.

Starting the gui and looking in the limited logs there, shows:

Initializing the STAgent Service
Starting the STAgent Service
Agent cheking in
Checkin failed
Checking latest program versions
No policy exists to determine download sources
Update failed: Attempt to download from no source

Digging deeper in the logfiles, i see these error messages:

Googling any of this doesn't reveal much.

At best, a few references to the old Shavlik forums and knowledgebases that vmware now have removed completely.

(Are those forums/KB still around somewhere? There were much valuable info in there, even if it seemed obsolete)

I haven't been able to find anything in the server logs either.

I've been able to push an agent install to a local PC, but that doesn't help me much with the "internet based" machines that have this problem.

Well, to be honest, i have only tried 1 so far, i'll see if i can find another one tomorrow to test with.

The external hostname and IP address have been added to the "Console Alias Editor"
The Console certificate have been added to the trusted root ca store on the client (during install).

So now i'm a bit lost. Any ideas where to look next?

Any input you can send in my direction is more than welcome.

Thanks a lot.
