Hello,
I have a VM configured this way:
host: windows 7 64bit, 16GB RAM
guest: windows 7 64 bit, 4GB RAM
the VM is using a physical disk, that is a FireWire800 attached external disk, recognized as \\.\PhysicalDrive4
I have read and gone through all steps required to prepare a disk to use as phisical disk, e.g. have removed the assigned drive letters in host.
Have done exceptions in antivirus (MS security essentials) for the VMware processes
Have given all vmware processes full rights in firewall (zonealarm pro) settings
After boot of host, I will start the VM using the Player product, and disk is accessed without trouble, the VM starts and all works fine.
I will shutdown the guest, and VM closes.
After VM closed, I will start again the VM with Player, and the error "The physical disk is already in use" comes out.
Same behavior happens if I use Workstation product in place of the Player.
Attached logs using both Player and Workstation to try to open the VM, and VM settings.
Note: I made another VM in Mac using Fusion to access the same physical disk, and there all works fine, I can shutdown and boot guest multiple times.
I suspect some handle still active on disk, left open by vmware processes somewhere after VM shutdown, is this issue replicable for some of you or it is my own system setup who needs checked?
TIA, Andrea
