Handling User Profiles

Hello Horizon crew!

I've been using Horizon for a number of years now, I started at View 4.5, and although the software versions and my environment have changed over this time, adding more compute nodes, tearing down and standing up new versions of Horizon, the one thing that has remained fairly static is how we handle user profiles. I'm using a single Windows Server and was initially using Roaming Profiles and Folder Redirection via Active Directory, but have since changed to using Persona Management instead. Introducing Persona was simply a configuration change as the data that made up the User Profiles and Redirected Folders remained on the same server and didn't move.

My problem is this....as my environment has grown the profile server is now huge, around 1.3TB, even with quotas enabled to restrict users to 500MB within their Redirected Folders. This has a knock-on effect when backing up the server via Veeam due to the large amount of changes in the roaming profile data, around 300GB a day.

I'm interested to know what technologies and methods other Horizon admins are using to handle user profiles, especially in large environments?
