Hi all
I'm using VMware Workstation 9.0.1 for developing and maintaing a number of Windows 7 and 8 "reference VMs".
To create a WIM image, I boot the VM with a Windows PE 4.0 ISO.
I then plug in a bootable USB stick containing the Windows installer, and then use this command line to capture the image right onto the stick:
dism /capture-image /imagefile:F:\sources\install.wim /capturedir:D:\ /Name:Windows7
This works fine, afterwards the WIM image can succesfully be used by the installer. So far all good.
The issue is with the USB stick; it is a USB3 stick. If I capture the WIM image (about 9GB) to hard disk, and then copy it to the USB(3) stick, it takes about 2 minutes.
The capture operation from within WIndows PE takes about 20 minutes.
I suspect that the USB support on the Windows PE disk isn't very good.
Any ideas how to improve that?
I'm using PE 4.0, which is the "Windows 8" version.
I was thinking that it might be a driver issue with that ISO, I just don't know where to find the VMware USB drivers for Windows 8 64-bit.
Do they exist?
Any help appreciated.
