I always keep fit to fullscreen on all my VMs so that neither guest nor host have to change resolution during operation. WinME never supported widescreen resolutions, such as my 1920x1080, but it always did a proper stretch and despite the slight blur, all was okay. This changed with version 9.
Now, the fullscreen produces a pillar box and no longer stretches properly unless I exit fullscreen and go back in. Then the VM stretches as before, but there is distortion wherever the mouse cursor goes, as if the image isn't what it appears and updates itself when the cursor passes by. Things get even weirder when resolutions change. If I go into a fullscreen DOS-based program and come back out, the entire screen image is a little bit smaller - scaled down despite the desktop resolution remaining unchanged. And with each successful running of a fullscreen program and coming back out, the image is scaled down more and more, until the entire desktop is literally a quarter of my monitor, with blackness everywhere!
To avoid this, I have to periodically exit fullscreen and re-enter it. Exclusive mode doesn't fix anything either. I then went and edited the display and gfx card driver and added 1920x1080 and finally I could see things well on the machine. But the aformentioned bugs are not gone.
Is there anything I can do so that VMware stretches the screen from all resolutions properly, without progressively shrinking them?
